FAQ

Life insurance questions, answered

What is an independent life insurance agent?

An independent agent isn't tied to one insurance company. I'm appointed with multiple carriers, so I can compare rates and underwriting to find the best policy for you rather than selling one company's products.

Who will I be working with?

Our team of licensed specialists has over 60 years of combined experience. Nick Cuccaro (owner) handles life insurance, Shane Nowosacki specializes in retirement planning and annuities, and David Calleo specializes in business and health insurance.

Do you serve clients throughout New Jersey?

Yes. Our team serves families, retirees and business owners throughout New Jersey by phone and video, including North, Central and South Jersey. We're based in Franklin, Sussex County, and licensed in multiple states.

Does it cost anything to work with you?

No. Consultations and quotes are free. Agents are paid by the insurance carrier, and your premium is the same as buying directly.

How fast can I get covered?

Some no-exam policies can be approved in days. Fully underwritten policies typically take 3–6 weeks.

Can I get life insurance with health conditions?

Often yes. Different carriers view conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure or past cancer differently, which is exactly why shopping multiple carriers matters.

How much term life insurance do I need?

A common starting point is 10–12 times your annual income, plus debts like your mortgage and future costs like college. I'll walk through a needs analysis with you for free.

Can I get term life insurance without a medical exam in NJ?

Yes. Many carriers offer accelerated or simplified underwriting with no exam, depending on age, health and coverage amount.

Is whole life insurance worth it?

It can be for people who want permanent coverage and guaranteed growth. It costs more than term, so we'll compare both side by side.

What is an IUL?

An indexed universal life policy credits interest based on a market index like the S&P 500, with a floor that protects against market losses, subject to caps.

When should I start retirement planning?

The sooner the better, but the five to ten years before retirement are the most important for income planning decisions.

Are annuities safe?

Fixed and fixed indexed annuities protect your principal from market losses and are backed by the claims-paying ability of the issuing insurer.

What is key person insurance?

It's a policy the business owns on an essential person, paying the business if that person dies so it can recover lost revenue or find a replacement.

Can you help if I'm self-employed?

Yes. I'll review available plans and supplemental options to find coverage that fits your budget.

Doesn't my employer already cover me?

Group plans often cap benefits and may be taxable. An individual policy you own can fill the gap and goes with you if you change jobs.

How much does final expense insurance cost in NJ?

It depends on age, health and coverage amount. A healthy 65-year-old can often get $10,000 of coverage for roughly the cost of a phone bill each month. We'll compare carriers to find the lowest rate.

Can I get burial insurance with no health questions?

Yes. Guaranteed-issue policies accept everyone in the eligible age range, usually with a two-year graded benefit period.

Is mortgage protection insurance worth it?

For most families with a mortgage, yes. A term policy sized to your loan is usually far cheaper and more flexible than lender-offered mortgage insurance.

Is no-exam life insurance more expensive?

Not always. Healthy applicants who qualify for accelerated underwriting often pay the same rates as fully underwritten policies.

Will my job raise my life insurance rates?

Many carriers do not charge extra for police or fire occupations. As independent agents we know which carriers treat first responders best.

Can I get life insurance at 70 or 75?

Yes. Many carriers issue term, guaranteed universal and whole life policies well into your 70s and 80s.

Is an IUL a good investment?

An IUL is life insurance first. When designed correctly and funded consistently, it can be a powerful tax-advantaged supplement to retirement savings.

Who owns the policy in a buy-sell agreement?

In a cross-purchase plan each owner owns a policy on the others; in an entity-redemption plan the business owns the policies. We'll help you choose with your advisors.

How much key person insurance do I need?

A common approach is 5–10 times the person's compensation or their estimated contribution to profits. We'll help you calculate it.

How many employees do I need for group health in NJ?

In New Jersey small group plans are generally available to businesses with 1–50 eligible employees. We'll review options for your size.

Will I pay taxes on a 401(k) rollover?

A direct trustee-to-trustee rollover into an IRA or qualified annuity is generally not taxable. We'll make sure it's done correctly.
